The recorder truck is the nerve centre of the survey. The observer sits inside and directs the operation of the vibrators and the rest of the seismic crew. In addition, he monitors the quality of the data being collected. In this photo, the wires are carrying the data detected by the geophones (all 9600 of them!) to the recorder.
